Brazilian star Ronaldinho set to grace Malaysian football?

Malaysian football fans could be in for some ‘Samba’ treat with reports suggesting that Ronaldinho could potentially ply his trade within this country, soon.

The FIFA World Cup winner was recently released by Brazilian side Fluminese after just nine appearances for them, having not scored or notched a single assist in his short tenure.

But since then, Ronaldinho has received a myriad of offers from across the globe, with his agent confirming to Swiss newspaper Blick that the two tangible offers have arrived from Switzerland as well as Malaysia.

“We are considering offers from Malaysia and Switzerland,” his agent Roberto Assis said, according to Blick.

While the identities of the clubs interested in him were not revealed, rumours are linking JDT and Pahang with a move to sign him and beef their squad up for the 2016 season.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

There are very few teams in Malaysia that can afford Ronaldinho’s salary, considering the glittering CV he comes with, but JDT and Pahang are undoubtedly the two teams that can do it.

But it also makes tactical sense. For JDT, Luciano Figueroa is set to retire at the end of this season and with Jorge Diaz returning to spearhead their line-up next season, Ronaldinho’s addition would provide a timely boost in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, Pahang themselves are looking to shuffle their foreign players, having kept them together for last 24 months, as they prepare to mount a stronger challenge next year.

He’s past his best, that’s a given. But Ronaldinho’s touches and vision remain the same, and that’s the sort of element, that any team in Malaysia, could make use of.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see if JDT and Pahang can match the offers made by other European sides, judging by the Malaysian Ringgit’s free-fall in recent months.
